HPLC Determination of β‑Hydroxy-β-methylbutyric Acid on Primesep B Column

September 13, 2019

HPLC Determination of β‑Hydroxy-β-methylbutyric Acid

Beta-Hydroxy beta-Methylbutyric acid (HMB) is used as an over-the-counter dietary supplement, which has been shown to increase lean body mass and muscle size. Another use for it is in to promote wound healing and to prevent the loss of muscle in individuals suffering from age-related muscle loss. HMB can be retained on a Primesep B mixed-mode column in in 3 minutes using low Acetonitrile (ACN) concentration in the mobile phase (10%) with 0.2% Phosphoric acid buffer. UV detection 200nm.

Condition

Column Primesep B, 4.6×150 mm, 5 µm, 100A
Mobile Phase MeCN/H2O – 10/90%
Buffer H3PO4 – 0.2 %
Flow Rate 1.0 ml/min
Detection UV, 200 nm
