HPLC Separation of Nabam on Mixed-Mode Columns

September 14, 2015

Nabam is a pesticide that controls algae, bacteria and fungal growth in aquatic industrial settings, and food processing water systems such as those used for cane and beet sugar production. Analysis of nabam is useful outside of agricultural science and food production since it can be used as a biocide for industrial purposes. Primesep 100 and Obelisc R were used to analyze nabam. Method is LC/MS compatible, and can be used for dozens of pesticides.

Condition 1

Column Obelisc R, 2.1×150 mm, 5 µm, 100A

Buffer Gradient AmAc pH 3.0- 30-60 mM, 15 min
Flow Rate 0.4 ml/min
Detection UV, 270 nm

Condition 2

Column Obelisc R, 2.1×150 mm, 5 µm, 100A
Mobile Phase Gradient MeCN – 10-70%, 15 min

Application Column

Obelisc R

SIELC has developed the Obelisc™ columns, which are mixed-mode and utilize Liquid Separation Cell technology (LiSC™). These cost-effective columns are the first of their kind to be commercially available and can replace multiple HPLC columns, including reversed-phase (RP), AQ-type reversed-phase, polar-embedded group RP columns, normal-phase, cation-exchange, anion-exchange, ion-exclusion, and HILIC (Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography) columns. By controlling just three orthogonal method parameters - buffer concentration, buffer pH, and organic modifier concentration - users can adjust the column properties with pinpoint precision to separate complex mixtures.

Nabam Analysis on Mixed-Mode HPLC Columns

August 24, 2015

Nabam is a di-thiocarbamate fungicide which is used on soils and leaves to protect from a variety of diseases on fruits, vegitables, field crops, and turf. Obelisc R and Primesep B2 were used to retain nabam and separate it from impurities. Primesep B2 contains embedded basic ion-pairing groups while Obelisc R contains embedded ionic and hydrophobic groups which can assist in fine tuning separations. Method is LC/MS compatible and can be used as a general approach for analyzing nabam and dozens of other pesticides.
